The Capitol Pachyderms are very pleased to announce that we finished second in the Ceylon Elephant Polo Association Taprobane Trophy Tournament in Galle, Sri Lanka.  The final game was quite dramatic, with several good plays from both teams and a final goal for DC Elephant Polo scored during emergency overtime.  The game ended with a tied score, which then lead to a penalty shoot-out.  Sadly, Tickle & the Ivories won that part, but it was still a good game and an excellent day.

More importantly, we helped to raise money for the Millennium Elephant Foundation’s mobile elephant clinic.  It can be quite difficult and expensive to transport and treat an injured or sick elephant, and the mobile clinic provides a vital service by coming to the elephants and providing treatment free of charge. They also provide sanctuary for old and ill elephants and offer tuberculosis screening and treatment for the elephants, a particularly important service as the disease spreads quickly and can be quite difficult to treat.
